"Sweet Thing"

Welcome to the cottage at 328 Madaket Road! We hope you enjoy the home, the beauty of Madaket, and the best sunsets on the island! Some guidelines and helpful info about the house...

Essentials

  • Check-in time is 4 PM. Checkout is 10AM. Generally firm as our cleaners and service providers are extremely busy.

  • Formal boundaries do not separate the main house (Crazy Love), cottage (Sweet Thing), and bunk house (Always on My Mind). We rely on common sense and mutual consideration between guests (100% success rate!), but let us know if you have questions.

  • The driveway is large and allows for parking for approximately 3-4 vehicles. More parking is available in the back of the home off Macy Road in the unlikely event more space is needed.

  • Enjoy high speed wireless internet (Network: Sweet Thing; Password: Atlas@328).

  • Smart TVs are connected via the internet, and apps such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc. provide the primary source of entertainment.

  • Heat and AC are controlled by Honeywell smart thermostats.

  • Exterior storage bins on the rear deck contain outdoor space furnishings beach gear (chairs, toys, etc.) available for your use. Kindly neatly return any items prior to departure.

  • An irrigation system runs regularly during summer months, mostly in the evening. However, please expect brief watering during the daytime to prevent grass from burning up.

  • The quickest access to the beach is to walk behind the main house and head right on the dirt road (Macy Road) toward the beach. The beach chairs are located in the storage bin or in the basement. The beach towels are located in the bedroom closets.

  • Should you wish to lock the doors when you're away, a key is provided to the front door. The rear door is to be locked from the inside only (lift door handle then turn lock knob). Please be sure to leave the key in the jar in the kitchen (see image below for reference).

  • A 2-in-1 washer dryer is located in the guest room closet (see image below). Be sure to press the dry button to select a cycle that both washes the clothing and dries the clothing in a single cycle.

  • A BlueSound speaker is kept in the sun room/dining room and can be connected to via WiFi or Bluetooth.

  • The basement with a separate entrance (Folger Blue color) is an owners' closet and off-limits to guests, unless explicitly agreed upon.

  • There is a gas powered grill on the deck at the rear of the cottage. Should the gas run empty, spare gas tanks might be available in the stairway leading to the basement. Else, the local gas stations will exchange empty tanks for full ones at a modest price.

Taking Good Care of the Home

  • Please recycle per the guidelines below. Please use the clear trash bags provided (under the kitchen sink and/or pantry).

  • Disposal of trash and recyclables is located in the large bins placed at the rear entrance to the cottage (see image below). Only bagged trash and recyclables should be placed in the trash barrels please (i.e., no loose/unbagged items). Trash is picked up once per week in the off-season and twice per week in the prime season.

  • Bagged pet waste should be placed inside a larger clear trash bag before being placed in the large trash bin, i.e., please do not place dog waste bags directly in the trash bin.

  • Similarly, small to medium sized cardboard should be placed in a clear trash bag before being placed in the trash bin.

  • No events (weddings, parties, etc.).

  • No smoking in any of the homes.

  • Please do not place anything in the toilet other than toilet paper to limit strain on the septic system.

  • Significant investments have been made in high quality furnishings to ensure you and all our guests enjoy an elevated experience. Please treat these furnishings well, e.g., no wine/drinks, food, or other stain producers in living rooms, no pets on sofas and beds, etc. We are pleased we rarely have to ask guests to cover excess cleaning and repair costs, and hope you will help us continue that trend.

  • Approved pets should please be kept off furniture to limit allergen impact for future guests.

  • Prior to checkout, please strip all beds; launder used towels and bed linens; empty the refrigerator; wipe countertops; take out trash; and be sure to exit by 10 AM.

  • If you booked directly, you have already signed our lease agreement. If you booked through a third party, you agreed to the third party's terms and in addition you agree to any additional terms in our lease agreement, which you can review and discuss any questions with us prior to your stay.

Local Info & Trip Planning

  • Millie's Market, a small market located next to Millie’s restaurant, sells household basics like milk, bread, newspapers, beach items, and beverages. It has spared countless guests burdensome trips into town : )

  • The bike path in front of the house will take you into Town (about 6 miles). The bike rental companies will deliver bikes right to the house: Young’s (508-228-1151) and Island Bike (508-228-4070).

  • The Wave Shuttle bus into own runs in the prime season every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour in front of Millie’s Restaurant.

  • Make dinner reservations as restaurants fill up in the summer. Nautilus (508-228-0301), Proprietors (508-228-7477), and inimitable Millie’s (508-228-8435) next door are personal favorites.

  • Guests who bring a 4X4 might consider purchasing a beach pass. There are two: a town beaches pass and a Great Point pass.

  • Smith Point offers nearby stunning beach drives, sunsets, fishing, etc.
